ERIK JOHANSSON | STILL DREAMING

What is a dream? Is it the brain's way of processing impressions we have gathered during the day, or a way to creatively find solutions to problems—or is it simply random thoughts? Perhaps we do not know, or perhaps dreams are what define us?

Dreams are a recurring theme in Erik Johansson's artistry. The exhibition STILL DREAMING is a window into the magical world of dreams, offering the viewer a glimpse into another reality that feels both familiar and entirely foreign at the same time.

An idea is often born as a simple thought, but is shaped through daydreams before landing as a playful sketch. These sketches become a collection of dreams, and some of them are brought to life as finished works. The magic happens through the camera lens, where the idea is transformed into photorealism. In the creative process, every element is equally important: models, props, and environments. A consistent use of light and perspective binds the impossible elements together, and the title of the image provides a clue to the artist's vision.

Dreams give us the courage to step out into the unknown and the power to influence the world we live in. We invite you to pause, let go of the rational for a moment, and lose yourself in another reality.

CHRISTOPHER HERWIG | SOVIET BUS STOPS

GUEST EXHIBITION | MAY 2 – SEPTEMBER 27, 2026

What began as a chance discovery during a bike trip in 2002 became the start of a project that continues to this day. Canadian photographer Christopher Herwig has traveled over 50,000 kilometers through former Soviet republics—from Ukraine to Uzbekistan, from Armenia to Siberia—to document something as mundane as bus stops.

Yet, these structures are anything but mundane. SOVIET BUS STOPS is a celebration of the individual creativity that flourished despite a strict regime. Here, we encounter small-scale masterpieces of concrete, mosaic, and glass; imaginative expressions that successfully navigated the limitations of public space and the free will of the artist. Through Herwig’s lens, these forgotten waiting areas are transformed into monuments of human creativity.

ABOUT CHRISTOPHER HERWIG

Christopher Herwig (b. 1974) is an award-winning Canadian photographer and filmmaker whose work is defined by an inexhaustible curiosity and long-term commitment. Over three decades, he has worked in more than 90 countries, capturing the human perspective, often under challenging or restrictive conditions.

Herwig achieved international acclaim with his extensive project on Soviet bus stops, which resulted in a series of celebrated photobooks and the documentary film Soviet Bus Stops (2022). His ability to shed light on complex global issues through a human lens has led to collaborations with major publications such as GEO and CNN Traveler, as well as assignments for the UN and international aid organizations.

After being based in cities around the world, including in Jordan, Kazakhstan, and Liberia, Herwig has been living and working in Copenhagen since 2025.
